| Bio: |  Every day use your magic to be of service to others. Name: Kristina Helena Dahlgren Age: 36 D.O.B.: May 22, 1973 Blood Type: O+, Angelic-blooded Race: Naturally-born white witch Level: Level five. Specializes in healing, is very adept with protective spells and warding. Her powers of healing are wholly outwardly-directed--she cannot heal herself. She's working hard to reach level six, mastery, and is determined she'll get there. Physical Description: Kris is five feet ten inches tall and about 140 pounds; she has a lean runner's build. She has long blonde hair, very bright blue eyes and high cheekbones which are her most distinctive feature. Kris' style of dress can be called eclectic or eccentric; she often shops flea markets, estate sales or Goodwill, and manages somehow to make everything she wears look like a million dollars. Personality: Three words to describe Kris? Determined, curious, and independent. Kris is very much an individual; freedom-loving, she prefers to be self-sufficient rather than a sheep in society who follows everyone else's lead. She's an independent, highly inventive thinker, fueled by humanitarian ideals. Friendly by nature, she is a good listener and cares deeply for her friends, and is playful and spontaneous. She treasures the unique and looks for it in others. She throws himself one hundred percent into whatever she does and she's highly resistant and resentful of the attempts of others to manipulate her. She never gives up and isn't intimidated by anyone or anything. Confrontation is not a problem. Intensely curious, she loves puzzles and mysteries of any kind and has varied interests—as she says, no knowledge is ever wasted, and usually comes in useful at some point or another so it is best to learn as much as you can as you go along. Adaptable and quick to grasp things both physically and intellectually, she prizes competence and expects much from those around her. She has passionate convictions and deep sensitivities that make her both a good and loyal friend and an implacable enemy. Kris doesn't like to be hemmed in, to be told she cannot do something—she takes it as a challenge to surmount. She believes that original thought will win the day and that new thought is what is needed to change the world. Sexuality: Sexually, she's experimental and loves the unorthodox and the unusual—she's not afraid to follow her desires regardless of gender. Labels are for clothes, not people.  History: Kris' parents are members of a coven in their hometown of Ann Arbor, and both are very altruistic, idealistic, and progressive, involved in humanitarian and environmental efforts, passing down those ideals to their children. They were pleased when Kris began showing an aptitude for magic early, and even more so when her power of healing began to manifest. They impressed on her the importance of working with others, of sharing her gifts, of helping those who need it and are open to it. Although she could perform magic from a very young age, when she reached puberty her powers began to blossom, and her parents sent her for extra and intensive study to her aunt Erynn, well-known in Oregon for her healing abilities. She spent many happy summers there learning and refining her craft before beginning practice at home. She makes a living with protection spells, wards, and the creation of magical objects as well as working with his parents in Many Paths, a family-owned shop that specializes in magic supplies and organic herbs, with an eye to supplying both covens and individual practitioners. The shop was well-known amongst the practitioners of the town, but to others, Many Paths was simply a strange little store filled with curious and off-beat things, and the Dahlgrens, with their odd way of looking at things and sometimes weird behaviors, were harmless hippie types. Few people gave them much grief, though, because the Dahlgrens worked hard and contributed time and manpower to many social causes. If someone needed help, they were always there, ready to lend a hand. She has two younger sisters, Maja and Elin; Elin owns a local coffee shop/café called The Mudhouse (Kris' favorite place to relax) and Maja is currently studying for her doctorate in physics. Elin is a mundane, but Maja is a witch, and is working on a thesis of how magic and physics can be complementary. She grew up in a noisy, loving, competitive family, raised by parents who expected the best of their children and got it. Her parents have a great love of learning, wide-ranging interests, and inquisitive natures and passed on those gifts to all their children, though Kris and Maja seem to have gotten the largest share of it. Academically, school was easy for Kris. She was fortunate enough to be athletic, on both the track and swimming teams but was most often found with her nose in a book. She grew up known as "the kid with the hippie parents," which was much better (not to mention safer) than being known as the kid with the witchy parents. While she wasn't Miss Popularity, she did all right for herself, and though she hated having to hide who she really was, she knew it was necessary. She dated infrequently, too tall and gangly and all nose until her senior year in high school, when she grew into the long legs and her nose finally seemed to fit her face. College was an eye-opener for her sexually. Sex was great fun, it was wonderful sharing herself with others, but she never saw the need to make it serious. Life was too full of wonderful choices to settle on any one thing or any one person for very long. There were surprisingly few hurt feelings; she was always very open about experiencing and enjoying people and then moving on. Most of the people she slept with remained good friends. As for her personal life, she loves any form of sexual expression that challenges her and has had numerous affairs with both men and women, vivid but tumultuous. She's had no serious relationships, and has always preferred it that way, though as she's gotten older, she’s becoming a little more discriminating and is beginning to think that a little stability might not be a bad thing. Since the Light of May: Magic is intrinsic to witches, woven into their DNA and so not to use it is like cutting off a hand, or asking them to stop using their eyes. Kris has studied and practiced since childhood, though before the Light of May it was always in secret. Now, she doesn't have to hide who and what she is and consign most of her life to secrecy and shadows. She can live openly and does. Always rooting for the underdog, she finds herself drawn to working for supernatural rights. Special Skills/Abilities: Because of her blood and the nature of her magic, Kris can project a feeling of calmness, peace of mind, tranquility. She needs to touch to do this, and it naturally occurs when she's working a healing on someone. For longer and more complex healing spells she can use her blood for more power and depth--more bang for the buck, so to speak. She can also use it to anoint someone, affording them some protection from evil forces and magic, though the protection doesn't convey immunity from said forces and magic, and unless it's bound by a spell, the effect is of limited duration. Much of her warding and protection spells use her blood as a catalyst, making the spells stronger and more binding.  Personal Weaknesses: If Kris is working in intense spellcasting, involving a lot of time and shed blood, she will be very weak at the end of the casting because she commits to it utterly. She's normally adept at defending herself in different ways (though as a white witch, she literally cannot cause deliberate harm to others), but after intense casting, she's unable to make even the simplest attempts to defend herself, such as shielding. She's basically defenseless at that time, and she's yet to figure out a way around that idiosyncrasy. She figures there must be some way to offset that, and she's determined to find it. Kris doesn't like to be hemmed in, to be told she cannot do something—she takes it as a challenge to surmount, and this is not always to her benefit. One of the things she needs to learn is to be less self-sacrificing. She'll throw herself into healing spells (much more draining than crafting wards or magical objects), taking on too much and working herself into drained exhaustion. It's very hard for her to see suffering and to let it go, to not give everything she can in the attempt to things better. But she needs to learn to back away sometimes before she burns herself out. Personal Strengths: Like the rest of her family, Kris has highly-developed humanitarian sensibilities. She devotes a lot of time and effort to those in need of help, particularly those who slip through the cracks. One evening of her week she devotes to a local women's shelter, working with abused and displaced women and children, and is a frequent volunteer in a food co-op, distributing donated food and clothing to the needy. She's always busy. Kris has an excellent memory. She has a knack for research and the patience to do it thoroughly. She also has the ability to retain huge amounts of information and to quickly flip through and recall what she needs at the time. She doesn't have a photographic memory, but it's still damn good. Living Conditions: Kris lives in a small home just out of town. She has gardens for vegetables, herbs, and flowers. She lives with Sam, a weimaraner, who sometimes comes to work with her, and is a total gentleman in the shop. Career/Job: Kris works at Many Paths, which has always been her "official" job. She also does private consultations—she has the gift of healing, and willingly offers it to those who seek her out or are referred to her.
